JADRAN - SAVONA 1990

Here I'll tell you a story about a trip to Trieste...Ship for Trieste was boarding off around midnight, so we had to waste some time that night. It was raining outside so went into someones flat and started drinking slowly. Then Ico remembered that we only have scarves, and no banner, so we just made one right there. We took the table cover and just wrote Mirko lookout for the bullet, because in Savona, there was this player Mirko Vicevic that use to play in Jadran. On the ship it was crazy already, singing and drunk people everywhere. The police counted on older people using the ship as main transportation, there were some, but not many. On the ship, there was tones of alcohol, one person asked us if we are planning on opening a shop in Trieste because of that, and Rico replied 'the vine
will be gone until Solta (closest island to Split). While the atmosphere on the ship was great, we felt like we'd never make it there, because of the long trip. We felt like we're traveling 100 days.
Someone said that our group that went by the bus made some troubles in Rijeka, so that we needed to slow down a bit. Somewhere around midday, the group started yelling out "Trieste is ours" and "Here we are". It was a foggy day, and you couldn't see 5 meters in front of you. We just noticed that we're entering a shipyard somewhere, and all went on one side of the ship, only to get yelled out by the ships captain "we're gonna turn over if you all go on one side!". Just then, we realized that it wasn't Trieste but Umag. We got a bit angry, but they told us that they need the petrol. So the group went to cafe's and around Umag and then something happened in the center. Cota punched one bartender in the head and that guy called the boss, and came back with 5-6 guys. Then one guy fired out of his gun, then a hell broke lose. Chairs flying everywhere, and everything would have ended up in tragedy if not for Ruzina, who took out the pump with petrol from the ship and started spilling the petrol all over the floor and started yelling out "fucking Istrian serbs I'll burn the whole Umag". The police arrived and
said that because of the huge amount of the damage that we caused, we cannot go to Trieste, instead that we have to go back to Split. The police kept on coming and isolated us in one place, and we were waiting to go back. As the locals started to gather around we smelled trouble again, about that time some women from HDZ party from Umag came there and said that they should let us go and started singing patriotic songs. The police like the rest of us didn't listen to her, so the people from Jadran called Tonci Vrdoljak in Trieste to let us go. So they let us go somehow, but they said that the damage was 200 broken chairs, 3 cafe's and that one jewllery shop was 'cleared out', along with 100 litres
of petrol spilt. When we arrived in Trieste, it was already night, Italians knew that we made troubles earlier so they searched us pretty good as we were leaving the ship. When we got in, the result was 4:1 for us. Half of the pool stands was filled with Italians, and only about 1/4 of one sector was filled with our fans, but when we got there, we filled up that sector nicely, and started to make fun of little italians. After the end of the game, the troubles once again took place as we tried going towards Italians, they ran away, but the police took their place. It wasn't easy for them or for us, the whole incident took about 15 minutes. We got back home in peace and with a song, there were no more troubles, because we didn't stop anywhere on the way back. I think that this was the final organized away travel for that whole generation of Torcida from the 80's when Torcida had its biggest charisma, when everyone was Torcida, we had no leader, but we all loved Hajduk, sang together and went in large numbers to away games. If only the war didn't happen, Torcida would most likely be the fiercest force in Europe, but then again, maybe thats what we really are.
So thanks for unforgettable days: Raso, Armando, Kvatro, Pike, Top, Rafo, Usa, Ico, Camil, Toro, Zan, Boka, Ledeni, Cipe, Pucko, Zika, Sajo, Cota...
